Old White R.O.C.K.S it again......

UPDATE:
I have had so many questions about the lampshades that I have decided to create a tutorial.
Be watching....I'll have it out for you soon!

Happy Saturday Afternoon Y'all!
I am taking a break from stripping an old farm style sideboard IN.THE.GARAGE.

(Do they really have to say "Very Hot"?  .....it is rather obvious.)

It's a little cooler than what we've had lately but I must tell you that I am still melting.
In fact, after I get done here I am headed to the pool.....don't hate me......
I've earned it!

This morning I finished a project that I pondered much longer than it took me to get it done.
Doesn't that just aggravate you?

I started with two lamps that were very SHABBY Chic......

And I ended up with two lamps that are now very Shabby CHIC!

(This is the part where I overload you with pics.....)
humor me please....

I think they are just too cute!

I applied the paint rather thick so that it almost looked like plaster.....I splotched it on kind of like stenciling....I guess "dab" or "pounch" might be better that SPLOTCH!
You get the idea.

After two coats of Old White I used a wet cotton cloth to "pull back" the paint.
No sanding....and no mess.
Easy, peasy!

Of course, I am the Dropcloth Queen!
Seriously, is there anything that you cannot make out of these babies?
Dropcloth lampshades......wow.
Who'da thought it?
I LURVE them....and I mean LURVE!

The rest of the story goes like this:
These are supposed to go out to Restored~Home tomorrow.
Supposed is the operative word.
Hey, what is a Queen girl to do?  I did not expect to really, REALLY like them
....I had only planned on, sorta.
**grin**

I'll probably change my mind tonight a thousand times......the plan was to complete the farm style sideboard and take them all out to the shoppe tomorrow.
Now I may have changed my mind.
Mr. YBR made a very smart suggestion....he said, "Keep them here until you tire of them and then take them out to the shoppe."
Does he know me or what?

So stay tuned.....I honestly have not decided yet.  They would look great on my dining room hutch.....IF my dining room makeover was DONE!
Don't ask.....please don't.  The plan is now Christmas.....we shall eat in the finished dining room for Christmas.....and maybe even enjoy the lamps at the same time.

What would you do?

Blessings Abundant.......

  1. Are the lamps you transformed made of wood or metal? Can chalk paint work over metal items as well as wood? What else does it do well covering?
Love your ideas ! Can't wait till my Old White comes next week :>)

  2. Hi There! They are neither wood or metal....some type of composite. They are fairly heavy. I have painted CP over several different surfaces and have always had it cover and adhere. I have not found anything that it will not cover....but I am told that some of the laminate Ikea pieces will not adhere well.
Thanks for reading and thanks for the compliments!
    Please come back soon!
